ⓘ artists statement regarding psychogeography photography.
Psychogeography photography is a practice that involves capturing images to reflect the emotional and psychological impact of a particular place or environment on the photographer. It is a way of exploring the connection between a person's surroundings and their mental state, and how these two elements interact and influence each other.
One of the key aspects of psychogeography I utilize is the idea of 'the dérive'. The dérive is a method for drifting or wandering through a city or landscape, allowing oneself to be guided by the emotional and subconscious responses to the environment. This process often leads me to unexpected discoveries and insights, as well as a deeper understanding of the relationship between my perception and the physical world.
I find myself most often drawn to situations that lie between the new and the old, transitioning from faded aspirations, or the liminal space between. Often focusing on the textures, shades, colors, and shapes of the environment, or on capturing moments of serendipity and connection between people and place. By immersing myself in the atmosphere of a particular place and letting intuition guide my creative process, I aim to create images that evoke a sense of place and identity in a unique and personal way.
I find psychogeography photography to be a powerful tool for exploring the complex interplay between place, memory, and emotion. By using photography as a means of expression and exploration, this art form enables me to delve deeper into the hidden meanings and connections that lie beneath the surface of the world around. In doing so, I strive to create images that not only document the physical characteristics of a place, but also capture its essence and spirit in a way that is deeply personal and evocative.
I hope you enjoy or in some way find my photography interesting.
